(23andMe)
Haplogroup A: The stories of all of our paternal lines can be traced back over 275,000 years to just one man: the common ancestor of haplogroup A. Current evidence suggests he was one of thousands of men who lived in eastern Africa at the time. However, while his male-line descendants passed down their Y chromosomes generation after generation, the lineages from the other men died out. Over time his lineage alone gave rise to all other haplogroups that exist today.
Haplogroup R-L51: Haplogroup R-L51 traces back to a man who lived less than 10,000 years ago... that's nearly 400 generations ago.
Haplogroup R-L51 today: Haplogroup R-L51 is relatively uncommon among 23andMe customers. The number of 23andMe customers who share this R-L51 paternal haplogroup: 1 in 7,400.
Discrepancy: I have no idea why 23andMe here shows my paternal haplogroup as being R-L51, but FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) shows my paternal haplgroup as being R-Y16863. |
