Southampton is the largest city on the south coast of England, in the county of Hampshire, England, and is a major port, roughly in the centre of the coast. The city represents the core of the Greater Southampton region. It's noted for being the home of the RMS Titanic, the Spitfire, and more recently a number of the largest cruise liners in the world.
Southampton's history is very long and very complicated. Archeological finds show that Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements once existed within the area that is now the modern City of Southampton. Archeology also shows that the Romans established a settlement shortly after their invasion of Britain in AD 43, but abandoned it circa 410.

It is now at an advanced stage of regeneration, and is the location of the City Hall offices of the Greater London Authority.
