Notes:
The Southern part of the former Municipality of the City of Fitzroy, Fitzroy South contains the Fitzroy Town Hall, the Southern part of busy shopping and eateries street Brunswick Street, the four towers of Housing Commission accommodation, St Vincent's Hospital, an ever-changing & increasing number of art galleries and other arts and cultural organisations.
Fitzroy South is the peak of the modest but culturally significant Fitzroy Hill, birthplace of many of the local indigenous organisations: Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, the Aboriginal Legal Service, Child Care and Community Service organisation and the Fitzroy Stars Gymnasium.
Fitzroy South was also the birthplace of numerous publications, broadcasting organisations and festivals. Its swimming pool and shared houses featured in the new wave literature classic of the 1970s, Monkey Grip by Helen Garner.
