    Obituary
    • With profound sadness, we must announce that Emily died suddenly on 11 February 2014 in Midland, Ontario, Canada.

Beloved wife of 40 years to Grant and wonderful, precious mother to Anne and Thom (Jillian).

Cherished sister to Jenny, Marny, Vicky and John (Carolyn). Dear sister-in-law to Brian (Paula) and Paul. Predeceased by her lovely parents John and Marny Motyer. Adored aunt, cousin and special friend to so many who will miss her deeply.

Born in Toronto, Emily considered Winnipeg her childhood hometown. A proud alumna of Queen's University, she became a lifelong educator, teaching elementary school, offering training in Total Quality Management and working as education coordinator at Huronia Historical Parks. Ever since moving to Midland in 1980 Emily was a pillar of the volunteer community.

Just some of the organizations that benefited were the Midland Nursery School Co-op, Huronia Performing Arts for Children, Wye Marsh Festival, Midland Secondary School Parents' Council and the Friends of Saint Marie. Latterly, she was dedicated to Huronia Players and Hospice Huronia.

She was honoured to receive the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers award for her work with Hospice Huronia.

Although she faced many challenges, she did so bravely and cheerfully, always with a kind word for others. Emily worked with the bereaved; how we wish she were here to help with our grief for her.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Huronia or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
We will celebrate Emily's life at the Midland Cultural Centre, 333 King St., on 20 February 2014 at 1 p.m.
