  • Notes
    • Stationed in Ceylon (now called Sri Lanka) and while on leave back home, his first wife Lillian died of pneumonia.
His youngest child, Dorothy, was only 18 months old at the time, William Edward was still working out in Ceylon.
In order to have someone to look after the children, William married his wife's older sister (who was then a widow).  Can safely say that this must have been something of a marriage of convenience, and she returned to Ceylon with him and the two youngest children.
The boys were farmed out to various relatives.  William John (known as Jack) was brought up by Florence Motyer and George Motyer.
