(Research):Stationed in Ceylon ( now called Sri Lanka) and while on leave back home; his first wife Lillian died of pneumonia. The youngest child, Dorothy was only 18 months at the time and William Edward was still working out in Ceylon. In order to have someone to look after the children, William married his wife's older sister ( who was then a widow) . Can safely say that this must have been something of a marriage of convenience and she returned to Ceylon with him and the two youngest children. The boys were farmed out to various relatives, William John know as Jack was brought up by Florence Motyer and George Motyer .

(Research):The obituary's date in The Royal Gazette, Bermuda, was 12 April 1887, which fell on a Tuesday.
As that Tuesday's issue of the newspaper would've been printed in the morning (or the night before), and as it reads that he died late on a Tuesday night, I am assuming that he died the previous Tuesday (or a Tuesday before that). The previous Tuesday would make sense, as the wireless hadn't been invented yet at that time, so it would've taken a week or so for the news of his death & funeral to reach Bermuda by ship.
As for the date of the funeral & burial, the obituary mentions that they took place "at 2 o'clock this afternoon". The ambiguity is, did the news that The Royal Gazette used state that the funeral would be the Tuesday after his death, and therefore be on 12 April 1887 (the date it was published)? Or was the funeral & burial sometime after his death on 05 April 1887, but before the obituary was printed in The Royal Gazette on 12 April 1887? | SCOPINICH, Capt. Marco Antonio (I4907)

Records from the Independent Church Chiswell, Portland: 1) December -Member Mary Stone, wife of Shadrach, stone quarryman was admitted. 2)Excommunication of Mary Stone, the wife of Shadrach Stone, quarryman. Thefollowing is a copy sent by the Church to the excommunicated party. Themembers of this Church think themselves fully justified in excommunicatingyou from this communion, in consequence of your most unaccountable neglectof a positive duty, in having refused to attend at the administration of theLords Supper for upwards of twelve months past. Though repeatedly remindedof your obligations with the most possible tenderness and the necessity ofadhering to established rule and order. You have been dealt with accordingto the direction given by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Matthew Chapter18, verses 15,16and 17. As you have taken no notice of the admonitionsgiven, nor assigned any reasons that will justify your conduct, we are underthe painful necessity of informing you that you are no longer in Communion

Betty Motyer (als. Frances) was buried 23.9.1760.

(Research):The Royal Gazette (Bermuda) reported the death of this youngster as follows:
"Death on Tuesday last (31 Jul 1821), at Port Royal, Southampton, Bermuda, Samuel, infant son of Mr. Copeland COOPER."
Searches to date have not found a Samuel as having been born to Copeland COOPER and Charity BASDEN, thus, for now we must conclude that there was an error on the part of the newspaper - this child, in fact, was Nathaniel Hill COOPER. | COOPER, Nathaniel Hill (I4196)
